破碎机工作时磨料由下料斗进入破碎机腔体内，物料通过高速旋转锤头的碰撞来破碎物料；或者通过高度旋转的料盘将物料甩向筒体内壁的反击板，相撞后返回锤击区，受到板锤锤击而破碎物料。
目前铸造破碎机锤头材质有很多种，如铸造高锰钢系列、铸造合金钢系列和铸造高铬铸铁系列等。实际生产表明，各种材质制成的锤头，使用性能差异较大，因此，锤头材料要根据锤头使用情况等进行合理选择
